On May 4, 2009 Georgian Studies Center of Harriman Institute at Columbia University NY
arranged the third annual symposium Georgia on the Crossroads of European and Asian Cultures

In the symposium participated the director of Giorgi Chubinashvili National Research Center for Georgian Art History and Monuments Preservation Dr. Mariam Didebulidze and the Senior Research Fellow of the Center Dr. Mzia Chikhradze. Dr. Mariam Didebulidze made her presentation on ”Cultural Heritage of Abkhazeti” and Dr. Mzia Chikhradze on “Integration/Expansion, Georgian-Russian Cultural Relationship in 1910-1980ss”.

Presentation of the books published by the George Chubinashvili National Research Centre for Georgian Art History and Heritage Preservation in 2008

The presentation of the books published by the Chubinashvili Centre in 2008 was held at the gallery “Kopala” (7, Brother Zubalashvilis St.) on April 1, 2009.

2008 was very productive in the sense of publishing activity. Financed by the Ministry of Culture, Monument Protection and Sport of Georgia and in the framework of state program the G.Chubinashvili Centre published the following books:

The photographs of Georgian cultural monuments from the S. Kobuladze Laboratory of Fixation of Monuments of the G. Chubinashvili Centre were also exhibited at the presentation.

The presentation was held with the support of Magti-Group.   

The presentation of the book “Tbilisi Geophysical Observatory, History and Architecture” by Maia Mania a Senior Research Fellow of Giorgi Chubinashvili National Center for Georgian Art History and Monument Preservation Studies was held on March 18, 2010 at the Goethe-Institute-Georgia . The book is published with the support of the Goethe-Institute-Georgia.

In 2009 George Chubinashvili National Research Centre for Georgian Art History and Heritage Preservation and Tokio Institute of Technology agreed to four years’ collaboration. Research project is to be executed during these years which aims investigations of Georgian church architecture by means of using more advanced technologies. Participants of the project would be provided with up-to-date technical equipment by Japanese side.

The first stage of the project was executed in September 2010 which implied measurment and photogrametric analysis of the buildings. A group of five Japanese scholars came to Georgia under the guidance of professor Shiro Sassano. The Japanese group set to work side by side with Georgian colleagues in Tbilisi, Kvemo (Lower) Kartli, Shida (Inner) Kartli and Kakheti. As a result churches of Tbilisi Metekhi, Anchiskhati, Shiomgvime, Bolnisi Sioni, Tsinarekhi, Manglissi, Dzveli Shuamta, Nekresi, Alaverdi, Ninotsminda, Gurjaani have been explored. The two last days were dedicated to Mtskheta. The results of the planned researches give an opportunity to reveal damages of the buildings, such as cracks, subsidence of foundation, exhaust of stone and etc.; to establish the level of stadfastness of seismology and accordingly to determine possible risks.

Thus, these bear considerable meaning for measure elaboration of restoration and preservation for ancient churches.
