JOINT GEORGIAN-JAPANESE RESEARCH PROJECT

In 2012, George Chubinashvili National Centre, in collaboration with Tokyo Institute of Technology, has continued work on the joint Georgian-Japanese research project that aims at studying the building technique, the structural stability, and the seismological safety of the monuments of Medieval Georgian architecture with the use of state-of-the-art technologies. The project is led by Shiro Sasano, the head of the Department of Built Environment of the Tokyo Institute of Technology. From the Georgian side, the project is coordinated by David Khoshtaria, the head of the Medieval department of the George Chubinashvili National Centre.

From June 26 to July 4, 2012, the third stage of the study was conducted, which included photogrammetric analysis and examining stability of buildings by setting sensors for microtremors. Members of the joint research group from George Chubinashvili National Centre were David Chikhladze, Mariam Gabashvili, George Patashuri, Nino Tsitsishvili, Nato Chitishvili, Tamar Dadiani, Irina Mania, and Eter Edisherashvili. The group has worked in Mtskheta, Tsromi, Ubisa, Samtavisi, Tsinarekhi, Kintsvisi, Shatili, and Mutso.

On the initiative and with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia the second literature forum-dialogue for Georgian and foreign publishers, translators and writers was held in the frames of the festival. The goal of the forum-dialogue is popularization of foreign literature in Georgia, as well polularization of Georgian literature abroad, make new contacts between Georgian and foreign publishing houses.

The George Chubinashvili Centre director Mariam Didebulidze read a paper “Art History in the Recent Georgian Publication”.

XIV International Tbilisi Book Festival

took place on May 24-27, 2012 (11^th pavilion of EXPO Georgia). The George Chubinashvili National Research Centre for Georgian Art History and Heritage Preservation presented its newest books at the festival, as well as the books published by the Centre in earlier years.
