Project  “LIMEN: Cultural ports from Aegean to the Black Sea”

The scholars of the G. Chunashvili National Centre  M. Didebulidze, M. Bulia, K. Mikeladze, M. Janjalia, D. Khoshtaria and the representative of the Batumi  Shota Rustaveli University N. Inaishvili participated in the International Scientific Symposium “City Ports From The Aegean To The Black Sea. Medieval – Modern Networks”  organized from 22 until 25th of August during a “cultural cruise”.
The European Centre for Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Monuments (E.K.B.M.M.) has co-organized with Istanbul University the Symposium that was realized “on-board” in a cruise that begun from Piraeus port and crossing Aegean sailed through Bosporos to the Black Sea and going from Constanta and Varna ended in Istanbul.
The Official Symposium opening was set at the Archaeological Museum of Piraeus on 21st August with the  inauguration of the Exhibition “Ode to the Sea” with works of contemporary art from students from the laboratories of Painting and of Engraving of the Department of Visual and Applied Arts of the School of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
The Symposium aim was to discuss extensively for the cultural heritage and cultural tourism in the areas of Aegean and Black Sea. The coordinators has brought closer  specialists from the field of cultural heritage, cultural tourism, cultural routes, history and ecology of coastal areas of the region. About 100 eminent invited people have participated, archaeologists, art historians, scientists specialized in the field of culture and tourism and representatives of international organizations of cultural and tourism bodies from Greece and Turkey, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Georgia and Romania along with experts from European Institutions in Brussels.
During the Symposium 60 speakers form all countries have presented their field researches, good practices, ideas and plans regarding the promotion (cultural and tourism) of Black Sea city-ports but for social and financial issues in relation with the promotion of these areas.
The Symposium proceedings are expected to be edited on November 2015.
The Symposiums main concern, as projects LIMEN was the Institution of Cultural Port of Black Sea and the conditions for its pilot operation and establishment. The establishment of this new and promising Institution, aims to connect the region of Aegean and Black Sea with cultural terms and support every effort within the framework of cultural tourism.
The Symposium has ended in Istanbul on August 28th with the  inauguration of the photographic exhibition “3 seas 7 Ports: Cultural Routes from Aegean to Black Sea”, that was realized in the special place of Koc Museum.

On June 25-26, 2015, in the frames of the project “LIMEN. Cultural Ports from Aegean to the Black Sea” (financed by the European Union), a work-shop was held in Odessa (Ukraine) on the issues of the development of Cultural Tourism and its promotion.

The Georgian partners of the project  (Dr. Mariam Didebulidze, the manager of the project and Tamar Kaikacishvili, tourism expert from the Ajara Tourism Department) presented papers on the development of cultural tourism and its marketing  in Georgia and in Ajara in particular showing  best experience of recent years.

On May 29, 2015, at 6pm an exhibition of Georgian graphic artist Guranda Klibadze was opened in the George Chubinashvili National Research Centre for Georgian Art History and Heritage Preservation .The name of the exhibition was “What is it to be a Woman Artist?” There were represented pieces of art executed in monotype technique. Overall context of the exhibition was to accentuate the urgency of the gender question in art. Although along with this problem, the visitors had a good chance to get acquainted with the works of one of interesting representatives of Georgian contemporary graphic art, with current cultural processes and with attempts to create new artistic reality.

The exhibition was preceded by a paper – “What is it to be a Woman Artist?” – read by an art historian Tatia Ghvineria.

The presentation of the Gelati Monastery World Heritage Site Management Plan was held on  May 15, 2015, at George Chubinashvili National research Centre for Georgian Art History and Heritage Preservation and on May 19 in Kutaisi, at Akaki Tsereteli State University.

From August to December, 2013, the draft of the Management Plan was prepared by the Centre at the request of the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia. From August, 2014 to May, 2015, the Centre carried out the project “the Preparation of the Gelati Monastery Architectural Ensemble Management Plan” funded by the Municipal Development Fund. In order to ensure the fulfillment of the project, the Centre formed a multidisciplinary work team including both employees of the Centre and invited experts. The project aimed to complete the Management Plan in accordance with the requirements of UNESCO and interests of all stakeholders. Implemented work is based on integrated approach, which includes the protection of the Outstanding Universal Value of the monument in connection with protection and preservation of the cultural, ecological, social, and economic aspects of its setting (buffer zone).
